LISTED HOUSES, SUSTAINABLE RETROFIT
A grade II-listed timber-framed and brick house. The oldest part, a late 15th century hall and cross-wing, is to the south. There are exposed beams and a crown-post roof here. There are two 17th-century brick chimney- stacks with a large hearth, baking oven and inglenook; an inventory of 1664 records that the building was damaged by fire in 1607. The north wing was added in the 19th century.
To the rear, adjoining the original hall, is a 19th-century garden room. This was in very poor condition. We repaired the timber structure and installed an insulated limecrete floor, wood-fibre wall and roof insulation, new French doors and a new shower room. We also installed wood-fibre insulation to other parts of the house and refurbished or replaced other windows.
I worked on this project while at Freeland Rees Roberts.
